Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Model #79046353401 Electric Range. the left most switch is broken (part 54A). They sent a new one, but its a different type, need to know how to wire

A:

There appears to be an error on the parts list diagram for this model. I am showing that the left front burner that uses the far left switch is a large single element. If you ordered part 54A, that appears to be a double element burner switch (original part 318191023 that substitutes to current part 903097-9010). That burner switch is a kit for dual element burners. If your left front burner is a large single element burner, then it will need part 318293814 . If this accurately describes your situation, then you should be able to return the part 903097-9010 and you can order the part 318293814. The part 318293814 should wire up the same as your original burner switch. The metal spades (nubs) may be in a slightly different location but they should be labeled the same.

If the left front burner is a dual element type, then you can use the instructions in the first image to properly wire that switch.

If you received a switch for a dual element and the element is a large single element, then I recommend that you exchange the switch for the proper one. I provided a wiring diagram in the second image that may be helpful in wiring that switch.

I hope that this information is accurate and that it helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

It is extremely important that the element switch is wired properly. If you get to a point where you are not confident that you care wire this switch accurately, I recommend that you have a Sears Service Technician install that component. This is a project that you can do your self. I added the instructions in the image below. NOTE: Disconnect the range from the power supply before servicing your range. The instructions should make this an easy DIY project.
