How do I get my Kenmore oven door unlocked?

If the door lock mechanism is not damaged, then you can attempt this procedure to retract the door lock:

  • Press in and hold the plunger of the door switch on the top left corner of the front oven frame. The oven control will detect that the door is closed. You must continue to hold in this plunger until entire procedure is completed.
  • Press the "SELECT CLEAN" button on the control.
  • Use the UP arrow to select the number of hours for the clean cycle.
  • The motor for the lock should start and run for about 15 seconds to lock the door. If the arm for lock is not fully extended, it may move out at this time. The "Door Locked" indicator should flash during this step.
  • After the "Door Locked" indicator turns solid and CLn appears in the display, hit the STOP/CLEAR button to cancel this cleaning cycle. NOTE: Do not allow the oven to continue heating in this clean cycle with the door open. Disconnect electrical power to the oven by shutting off the breaker if the cycle will not cancel properly using the STOP/CLEAR button.
After entering this clean cycle and then canceling it, the locking mechanism may retract to the normal unlocked position. If not, you may need to replace the door lock assembly.
