Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore oven # 79040454802 screen flashes

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. The "F10" fault code implies the Oven Control has sensed a runaway oven condition. The Oven Control could have a stuck relay or the RTD sensor probe may have gone bad.

The oven temperature sensor (RTD) can likely be removed and disconnected from inside the oven cavity and tested with an ohm meter. The oven temperature sensor is located in the rear upper left or upper right hand corner. If you see screw heads then it can be removed from inside the oven, if you do not see the screws, then the sensor will have to be accessed from the rear.

The oven temperature sensor probe (RTD) should measure approximately 1100 ohms at room temperature. If it measures approximately at 1100 ohms of resistance, replace the oven control board. If it does not measure approximately 1100 ohms, replace the oven temperature sensor (RTD).

NOTE: Disconnect the power supply from the range before servicing.

The parts can be ordered from Sears PartsDirect The oven temperature sensor probe is part #316217002 and the oven control board is part #318414206
