Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Sitting on top of each one of the burner valves is a switch. Each switch fits over the burner valve stem and must sit stationary. If any one of the switches is not sitting stationary on top of valve, when the burner knob/stem is rotate, the switch will rotate along with the stem and it will not allow the switch contact to open and break the circuit to spark module.

In order to access the spark switches will require taking the top off. You must remove the grates, burner caps and the burner base before the top can be lifted off. The small screws holding the burner base to the top must be taken out. Be careful not to twist and break the screw. Since the cook top has not been used, the screws should come with no problems. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

Once the top has been taking off, you compare the mounting position of the 5 spark switches and determine which one is not sitting correctly.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
