I can understand wanting to know, if you need to service the attic fan.

Because of its age the bearings may need lubrication.

Some of these units also worked off a thermostat and if the motor is not shutting down on high temperature of the motor then I would look at the thermostat to see if it has an on selection for running the fan constantly. This would tell you if the motor is failing or if the thermostat is the problem.

You could also roll the fan drive belt off and check to see if the bearing of the fan is getting tight and dry and needs lubrication and causing the motor to overheat.

The motor should have some oil tubes to put drops of oil into.
