Question and Answers

Q:

I have a kenmore elite electric range mod. # 709. 45003801. What is the P6 on the burnner knob lcd mean. None of them are working.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to know what Pb means on the display.

Pb not p6 means the control is set to power boost.

This setting is for large pans, and bringing a large amount of water to a boil quickly. It will only stay on the setting for 10 minutes.

  • I would suggest that you reset the power at the circuit breaker and then press cancel once the power is restored.

This inductions cook top will not work with pans that are not magnetic on the bottom or are too small for the burner size.

If you are still having a problem with the range after resetting the power, then I would suggest having a technician come to check the range.

Q:

code

A:

Barbara H. provided a link for a previous answer that shows some information on that F10 code. Based on the part number that you provided (that is actually the part number for the owner's manual), the F10 code on your range could indicate a runaway temperature, a stuck key on the keypad or a failed electronic oven control board.

As indicated in that previous answer, the first troubleshooting step for this problem is to unplug the range for a few minutes. Plug the range back in and see if the code returns.

If the code does not return then the range may continue to operate normally.

Here is some advanced technical help for this problem if you want to repair the range yourself:

If the code does reappear, you can unplug the range and check the oven temperature sensor with a volt/ohm meter if you have that tool. Checking that component may help you avoid buying unnecessary parts. Here is a video that shows how to test the sensor on this type of range: Oven Sensor Testing . Here is a video that shows how to access that sensor in your range: Oven Sensor Replacement . As noted in that video, the sensor should measure around 1100 ohms at room temperature. If the sensor resistance is significantly higher than that (over 1400 ohms) then the sensor probe will need to be replaced. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Use the full model number of your range to access the parts diagram and order parts. The model number on this type of range is normally on the base of the range in front of the right front leveling leg. Pull the bottom drawer out to view this area.

If the sensor resistance is okay, you can plug the sensor back in and check the resistance through the sensor circuit where it connects to the electronic oven control board. Here is a video that shows how to access that control board in the console: Range Clock Control Replacement . The sensor circuit is connected to the control board with violet (purple) wires. Check the resistance through that sensor circuit in a similar manner to the way that it was checked at the sensor. If the resistance of that sensor circuit is normal (around 1100 ohms), then the electronic control board will need to be replaced.

These tips should help you repair the range if you want to fix it yourself. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

Q:

Installing a Module spark on a dual fuel range

A:

I appreciate your efforts to supply a model number for the range. We definitely need that information to help you with this repair. Your details indicate that the model number begins with 790 but there should be numbers behind that.

I recommend that you check for a label that has that type of model number and reply with those details.

Be sure that you unplug the range and shut off the gas supply before accessing internal components.

I provided some images below that show how to lift the top on one type of gas range but your model may be different. This information may give you enough general information to complete the repair on your range. You may have knobs on the right side of the cook top that need to be removed. You may not need to remove the front console on your range. Once you lift or remove the cook top, you should be able to access the spark module as shown in the second image. If you have a completely different type of range or need more help, reply with that full model number and we will try to assist you further.

This can be a difficult repair to complete on your own. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
