Question and Answers

Q:

The walking belt of my Sears Proform crosswalk 831297364 has shifted to the right.I tried 6b in the manual?

A:

Be sure you are turning the left adjustment bolt counterclockwise and the right bolt clockwise.

You should remove the screws in the back of the end cap and lift the front edge of the end cap to release it from the clips then remove the end cap. Spray the adjusting screws with some WD40 to free them up and try again. You should let the treadmill run for 4-5 minutes after each adjustment as it will move very slowly from right to left.

Q:

How can I prevent the grill that directs the air on my recently purchased an air conditioning unit from vibrating?

A:

Here are some tips that may help with the vibrating discharge cover grill:

  • Rattling can be caused by a loose installation. Over time, the unit could have worked its way loose even if it was securely installed initially. I recommend that you check every aspect of the installation to make sure that there is no play in the installation of the air conditioner. Here is a copy of the owner's manual with the installation instructions in case you need it: Owner's Manual
  • Check the screws on the side of the front grill that are shown in the image below to make sure that they are tight. Turn them clockwise in the opposite direction that the arrow shows below to tighten them if needed.
  • If the above tips don't help, then you can try to add a shim or two of folded paper or cardboard along the outside of the discharge cover grill to prevent the vibration.
I hope that these tips help resolve your problem. Some vibration and rattling can be normal in a window air conditioner. You may not be able to completely eliminate it but you can likely reduce it significantly using these tips.

Q:

wards sea king 3.5 hp boat mtr

A:

Thank you for your question about the 1971 Montgomery Ward Sea King outboard motor.

The fuel mixture at the time was 16 ozs. of motor oil to 1 gallon of gas.

In today’s mix with a quality 2 cycle fuel mixture you can mix it 16:1 of water cooled 2 cycle oil.

You may be able to go to 32:1 with today’s 2 cycle oil but I would not chance seizing up the engine and go with the original mixture.

This engine is water cooled and has an impeller for the water pump in the drive housing. If you do not see any water coming out of the exhaust then you will need to remove the lower unit and see if the water pump is broken.

The lower unit gear case can be lubricated with lower unit grease.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for the update on the old outboard motor. That is about all the water you are going to get but if you as concerned as I am about the cooling system on this old outboard motor, my suggestion would be to pull the lower unit and do a physical look at the condition of the rubber water pump impeller to make it is in good flexible condition and won't fail out on the water. Please let me know what you have determined. Sam A.
