Question and Answers

Q:

What does the error code E-1 F-3 indicate on my Kenmore range model 66595802000?

A:

This error code indicates that the electronic oven control board detects a shorted oven temperature sensor. This is usually caused by a failed temperature sensor. It could also be caused by a wiring problem or a defective electronic control board. Replacing the oven temperature sensor will usually correct this problem. A technician will normally unplug the range and measure the resistance of the temperature sensor using a volt/ohm meter before replacing it. At room temperature, the sensor should measure about 1060 ohms. If not, then it will need to be replaced.

I provided the procedure for accessing the oven temperature sensor in the image below.

Q:

The broil will not turn off unless we unplug Kenmore Electric Range #66595802000. Thanks for guidance to fully examine, diagnoise and repair.

A:

I recommend that you unplug the range and check that broil element for damage. If the element is broken and is shorting to the metal cabinet, it will heat constantly.

If you are unsure about whether the element is okay, you can unplug the range and check the element with a volt/ohm meter as shown in this brief repair video: Bake and Broil Heating Element Testing . Here is a video that shows how to remove that broil element: Broil Element Replacement . NOTE: Your broil element will be slightly different than the one shown in that video. You will not have the temperature sensor in the middle of that broil element bracket.

If the broil element is bad, you can order a replacement from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you find no breaks or problems with that element, then you will probably need to replace the clock control board in the console to fix this failure. The relay from the broil element is apparently stuck.

You can order a replacement clock control board from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for that control is 8523665. Here is a direct link for that part: Microcomputer . Here is a repair video that shows how to replace that control board: Range Clock Control Board Replacement . NOTE: Your range will be slightly different than the one shown in that video but the basic repair procedure is the same. Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing and replacing internal components.

These tips should help you repair this oven failure. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

If you get to a point where you need to have a service technician complete this repair, you can schedule one through this link: Sears Home Services .
