Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore dishwasher not draining

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Your dishwasher uses the same pump and motor to drain as it does to wash. The pump/motor assembly must run in one direction in order to pump water up to the spray arms and in order to pump the water out, the motor must stop and reverse direction. If the motor is running when you press Cancel/Drain and there is no water being pumped out, the blockage is likely inside the check valve assembly or where the drain hose is connected under the sink. If you had just installed a garbage/food disposal and the drain hose is connected to the disposal, did you knock out the "knockout plug" from inside the fitting?

If the drain hose is not connected to your disposal, drain the dishwasher manually and then disconnect the power supply from the dishwasher and then remove the drain hose from the dishwasher pump. After disconnecting the drain hose from the dishwasher, remove the check valve fitting that the drain hose was connected to by turning it counterclockwise (CCW). Remove the check valve and clean it of any debris and also up inside the threaded opening where the check valve was threaded into. You will likely find debris inside the check valve and up inside the threaded opening restricting the drain water.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
