Question and Answers

Q:

The front glass panel on my microwave hood combo model 66561632100 keeps slipping down. Can it be fixed?

A:

WARNING: A microwave leakage test must be performed any time a door is removed, replaced, disassembled, or adjusted for any reason. A microwave leakage check, to verify compliance with the Federal performance standard, should be performed on the oven before it is used after any repair. Microwave ovens are probably the most dangerous of consumer appliances to service. Very high voltages, up to 5000 volts at potentially very high currents are present when operating. This is a deadly combination. These dangers do not go away even when unplugged. There is an energy storage device called a high voltage capacitor that can retain a dangerous charge for a long time. If you have the slightest doubts about your knowledge and abilities to deal with these hazards, replace the oven or have it professionally repaired

Q:

How do I replace the door frame on a Kenmore microwave model 66561632100?

A:

I am sending you an answer I wrote for folks replacing the door handle on this microwave. Since your door is already removed from the microwave just reverse the sequence to install.

I suggest leaving the inner panel off until you have mounted the door on the microwave. It will be easier to get the hinge pin and c-clip in place.

Begin by disconnecting the power to the microwave. Open the door and with a putty knife or small flat blade screwdriver pry the outer edge of the inner panel off the door. Pry the panel up 1/4-3/8 inch at a time and work your way around the door several times. If you pry too much at a time the tabs on the inner panel will break.

When you get the inner panel off you can access the hinge pin at the left top of the door. It is better to remove the door at this point and lay it on a pad on a counter so the glass doesn't fall out when you remove the next panel. Remove the c-clip and the hinge pin and lift the door off.

Pry the next panel off the door and you can access the screws for the handle.
