Question and Answers

Q:

Dishwasher Model 66517052400. Top rack spinner washer does not spin?

A:

I posted a photograph of that feed tube on the back wall of the tub in the image below. If one of the holes is open, then that feed tube (part 8559849) will need to be replaced. You can order that part from this page: Feed Tube for Kenmore Dishwasher Model 665.17052400

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you can position that top spray arm into the hole that is open, you can check to see if it sprays and rotates. You can test the amount of spray reaching the top rack by placing some sturdy coffee cups in some various locations in that upper rack with the opening of the cups facing up. Start the dishwasher and see if the cups will fill up with water after the dishwasher runs for a couple of minutes. If the upper spray arm seems to be working properly, then replacing that feed tube should fix your problem.

There are 2 issues that could prevent the top spray arm from getting proper water flow and water pressure. You could have a clog or component problem in the chopper blade area of the sump. The image below shows a basic procedure for accessing that area in the dishwasher (your dishwasher may be slightly different but the basic procedure is the same). I recommend that you check that issue. I posted a link for a previous answer that discusses a possible problem with the Turbo Zone wash system on the dishwasher. A problem with that system could prevent the upper spray arm from getting water. You can check system if necessary. If you need more help, let us know.

Q:

The water on my Kenmore Elite dishwasher model 66517052400 is not hot. The tap water is hot and I have the dishwasher set to Hi Temp Wash.

A:

A problem with water level in the dishwasher could cause a heating problem but the control is designed to stop and signal an error code (clean light blinks 7 times and repeats) if the water is not heating properly. You can check the water level. It should be within 1/4" to just touching the bottom of the heating element.

You could also have a problem with the thermister (temperature sensor) or the electronic control board. The water entering the dishwasher should be slightly less that tap water hot. If you run the hot tap faucet at you kitchen sink before starting the dishwasher, the water will normally begin at a hotter temperature. The heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher seems to be working properly since you indicate that the dishes are hot when the cycle is finished.

You did not indicate the temperature that the water in the dishwasher is at. After the water is heated in the Hi Temp Wash, it should be around 140 degrees. If it is around that temperature, then the heater and the control board are working properly.

A problem with the dishes being clean could be caused by a clog or restriction in the sump area of the dishwasher. You may be able to access that sump area using the procedure shown in the image below.

I see that this dishwasher has a turbo wash system. A problem with that component being on all of the time could prevent the dishes from being cleaned properly.

These tips may help you resolve this cleaning problem in your dishwasher. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details (actual temperature of the water in the tub).

You may need to have a service technician examine the dishwasher to resolve your cleaning issues. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore dishwasher work

A:

I recommend that you start that diagnostic test and check the thermistor as shown in NOTE 4 on that test (provided in the first image). The thermistor is a temperature sensor that detects the water temperature and can affect the heater circuit fault sequence. If the proper water temperature is not being detected by that thermistor, then this could be causing your clean light to blink 7 times. You can check the resistance through that thermistor circuit using the wiring diagram that I provided in the second image. The thermistor circuit is shown at the bottom of that wiring diagram.

Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher before accessing internal components.

Make sure that the dishwasher is filling properly. The water level should be within 1/4" to just touching the heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher. Start a cycle and allow the dishwasher to fill. When the filling stops, crack open the door to stop the cycle. Open the door and observe the water level. If the level is too low, you will need to check the water supply, fill line and inlet water valve.

These tips should help you with this problem. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.
