Question and Answers

Q:

66516992400 not advancing to next cycle - why -is this something i can fix?

A:

If you are starting the cycle in the Pots & Pans portion of the cycle, then the dishwasher can stall if the heating element is not working or the thermostat that detects water temperature is bad. Selecting the Hi-Temp Wash option can also cause the timer to stall during the thermal hold portions of the cycle where the timer motor will not advance until the temperature thermostat is satisfied. The technical information for this dishwasher is shown in the images below. If the timer advances properly in portions of the cycle that are not thermal holds and then stalls when it gets to that portion of the cycle, then I recommend that you check that heater and the thermostat. If that element is not heating, then you can access that component as shown in the third image below. Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher before accessing internal components. You can measure the resistance through that heating element using a volt/ohm meter as shown in this brief repair video: Dishwasher Heating Element Testing . If that heating element is okay, then you could have a problem with the timer, the push button switches, the high limit thermostat or the wiring in that circuit. You can re-install the element and check the resistance through that entire circuit using the wiring diagram as a guide.

If the element is heating properly, then you can check that thermostat for continuity. The 4th image shows how to access that thermostat. You can test it for continuity using a volt/ohm meter. You will need to heat that thermostat up to 145 degrees using a heat gun to see if it closes at that temperature. If not, then that component will need to be replaced.

If the timer never advances in any portion of any cycle then that timer will probably need to be replaced.

You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker to disconnect electrical power before accessing and replacing internal components.
