Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore dishwasher #66516049401: No power from dishwasher, won't start a cycle. I replaced thermol cutt off #8193761, and the same symtoms persist.

A:

Your details seem to indicate that the dishwasher has no power at all to the control console. I recommend that you check for a light switch beside the kitchen sink that may control power to the dishwasher. A switch is often wired into the power supply for the dishwasher in many homes. If you find no light switch that controls the dishwasher, I recommend that you check the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher. If the house circuit breaker is okay, then you could have a wiring problem in the junction box. I recommend that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher and check the power supply wiring in that junction box. Here is a link for the installation guide that will help you access and check that wiring: Installation Guide . That junction box is shown on page 13. If the wiring is okay, you can put on some rubber electrical safety gloves and carefully check the voltage through the black and white wires with the circuit breaker briefly turned on. NOTE: You should only conduct this live voltage check if you are completely confident in your technical ability to safely measure it . If you have voltage at the wire in the junction box, then you can shut off the circuit breaker and access the control board in the console. You can check the voltage at the contacts that are marked on the wiring diagram in the image below after briefly turning on the breaker. You should still be wearing rubber electrical safety gloves when making this live voltage check. If you have voltage going to the control board then that control board will need to be replaced since it is dead. You can order that control board from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number is 8564546. Here is a direct link for that control board: Electronic Control .

Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher before accessing and replacing parts.

If you do not detect voltage at the control board, then you apparently have a wiring failure between the junction box and the control board. Check that thermal cut-off fuse to make sure that it is good.

These tips may help you repair this dishwasher failure. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
