Question and Answers

Q:

when I push the button on my dishwasher for the 4 seconds, it does not unlock. Please help

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Push and hold the "No Heat Dry" button for 5-10 seconds or longer to see if the lock light goes off. Based on your details, if it doesn't turn the lock light off, the console assembly with the active overlay/touch pad is likely faulty and will need to be replaced. The console can be ordered at Sears PartsDirect .

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Kenmore Ultra Wash dishwasher is inoperative

A:

I see that Marc posted a link for a previous answer that covers a similar failure. As noted in that previous answer, the problem that you are describing is normally caused by a failure in the control panel. It will sometimes be caused by a loose ribbon wire connection between the control panel and the electronic control board in the console. You can shut off the house circuit breaker and open the console to check that wiring connection. Remove screws from the inner door panel to release that console and check the ribbon wire connection. Check the wires and the contacts for corrosion. You can try to clean the wire contacts with electronics contact cleaner if necessary. That may fix your problem. If not, then you will probably need to replace that control panel. You can order that control panel from this page: Kenmore Dishwasher Model 665.15812990 Console Parts . Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

If you need more help, reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

Hello Paul. I would be glad to provide the pin assignments for the keys on that control board if they were available. The technical information that I have for that model does not have the pin-outs listed. I checked the information on similar models that use the same control panel. I also checked the models that use the same electronic control board. I did not find a pin-out resistance chart for any of the models that use those control components. Although that information is available for most dishwasher models, it is not available for this particular dishwasher. I apologize that I am not able to provide you with that information. I also apologize for the problem with the images on our website. We are having some problems with many of the images displaying properly. We are trying to fix that problem as quickly as possible.

The pin-out resistance chart (if it was available for this model) would indicate how to check those buttons on the control panel. That technical information is not available for this dishwasher. There is not a method available for checking the buttons in this situation. The technician would replace the control panel in this situation. If the control panel is replaced and you encounter the same problem, then the electronic control board would then need to be replaced.

Hello Paul. I understand your concerns about this lack of technical repair information on the control panel for this dishwasher. This model was introduced in 1999. At that time, the pin out charts were not regularly provided for the control panel by the manufacturer. That was normal for the industry. Since then, Sears has been instrumental in changing that standard so that the keys on that type of dishwasher component can be checked. That takes the guess work out of a repair that you are facing in your situation. Most (but not all) dishwashers in the Kenmore line now have methods for determining which component is bad when it involves a failure of the control panel and/or the electronic control board. There are times when both of those components need to be replaced even after testing and replacing a part. Regarding the availability of the white control panel, I also understand your disappointment about that issue. The manufacturer normally provides repair parts for about 10 years after a product launch. Due to the age of your dishwasher, not all repair parts will be available as realized with that white control panel part. I apologize for that inconvenience. I hope that these explanations help. Our Manage My Life website is another innovative support feature for Kenmore and other brands of appliances. We attempt to provide you with common sense troubleshooting and repair help on this website that you can use to maintain and fix your appliances. We hope that you will still consider Kenmore and other brands that Sears sells when replacing your appliances. We honestly strive to provide the best appliances and go above and beyond in support and service. If you have further questions or need more help, let us know.

Q:

Why does water not go into my dishwasher?

A:

Before you order parts open the dishwasher and remove the lower rack. In the right front corner on the bottom of the tub there is a float. If this float sticks in the up position or the switch underneath the tub that the float actuates fails the dishwasher won't fill.

If those two parts are good, replace the fill valve.
