Question and Answers

Q:

Distinguishing between failed control board and failed control panel on 66513893K801

A:

The first image below shows the procedure for checking that control panel keypad. You can shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher and then unplug the ribbon wire connection on that electronic control board. The second image shows a basic procedure for access the control board in that type of dishwasher. Once you unplug that ribbon wire connection for the keypad, reassemble the dishwasher and power it up as described in the first image. If the drain pump motor runs after you power the dishwasher back up with that keypad ribbon connector unplugged then the electronic control board is probably okay. You will need to replace the console key panel in that situation. If the drain pump does not run, then you will probably need to replace that electronic control board. You can order parts from this page: Kenmore Dishwasher Model 665.13893K801 Control Panel Parts . Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher before accessing internal components.

These tips should help you determine the cause of your problem in that dishwasher. The Pots & Pans and Heated Dry lights remaining lit on an unresponsive control panel do not indicate a particular fault code on that model. Make sure that the control lock is not enabled. Here is a link for the owner's manual on that dishwasher in case you need it: Owner's Manual for Kenmore Dishwasher Model 665.13893K801 .

Hello cyalexa. That symptom normally indicates that you have a stuck or shorted key on the key panel. A problem with the electronic control board in the console could also cause that failure. In that situation, the dishwasher will not work until that keypad or control board problem is corrected.

That repair is fairly basic and is likely one that you can complete yourself. Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher before accessing internal components. You will probably need a Torx screwdriver or bit to remove the screws on the top side of that inner door panel so that you can release that console. That general procedure that I posted in the above response should help you complete the repair. If you are confident that you have enough information then you can attempt the procedure yourself. If you run into problems or need more help, reply with additional details. If you are not confident that you can complete this repair yourself, then you can have a service technician fix the dishwasher.
