water softener salt tank is half full of water, covering the salt .

A:

I will include a cut/paste from the manufacturer on how to clean the nozzle and venturi, as these are the most common reason for this problem to occur.

How to clean a Water Softener nozzle and venturi

If the venturi on a water softener is dirty or blocked the softener will not draw the brine into the resin tank which cleans the resin.

To clean a nozzle and venturi follow the steps below:

Remove the main cover.

Make sure the unit is in the service mode, indicated by the letter “S� stamped on the cam gear.

Locate the venturi, usually on the right side of the valve body, and unscrew the cap from the venturi. (The cap may be either gray or white).

Note: Do Not lose the large o-ring seal.

Lift out the screen support and screen.

Lift out the nozzle and venturi.

Wash and rinse all of the parts in warm clean water. If needed use a small brush such as a toothbrush to remove any deposits of iron or dirt.

Check the gasket and replace if it is damaged or deformed.

Clean the flow plugs and screens.

Note: Be sure to reinstall the flow plugs with the numbers facing up

Carefully reassemble the venturi.

Lubricate the o-ring seal with a light coating of silicone grease or Vaseline and place into position.

Install and hand tighten the cap. Over tightening may break the cap or housing.

Reinstall the main cover.

Slowly pull the bypass valve fully open.

Kenmore Ultra Soft 200 Water Softener question

I have checked the warranty and it states for ten years sears will provide and replace the resin and salt tank. For the part to be covered under warranty Sears must perform the repair. I recommend calling our customer at 1-800-469-4663 to schedule service.
