Question and Answers

Q:

Ice maker stopped on Kenmore 59676533500, almost topped a couple of weeks ago but started up again. Chaned filter several weeks ago could this have caused a pr

A:

You could have a water supply problem that is preventing the ice maker from producing ice. To check for this type of problem, I recommend that you use a turkey baster or squirt bottle to manually fill the ice maker mold. This may be difficult given the position of the ice maker in the bottom freezer. If you can fill the mold with water and the ice maker ejects this ice but does not fill back up then a water fill problem is causing this failure. In this situation, I recommend that you use the filter bypass plug to see if a clogged filter is preventing water from flowing into the ice maker. If you don't have the filter bypass plug, you can order a new one from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for this bypass plug is 12664501 (it only costs just over $4 not including shipping). If the ice maker fills and produces ice with the filter bypass plug in place then replacing the water filter should fix this ice maker problem. You can leave the bypass plug in the filter housing if your water quality is good and you prefer not to use the filter.

If the ice maker still won't fill then you will probably need to replace the water valve assembly. There is a chance that a wiring failure or a bad ice maker module could cause this problem. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this problem if you get to this point. Her is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If the ice maker will not cycle and eject the ice after filling the mold manually then the ice maker module (part D7824706Q) will likely need to be replaced.
