Q:

Mower 917.372832: does it use carburetor part series 6 or 9? The rewind starter: 590637 or 590702?

A:

Both carburetors sub to a part number 632795A. Both rewind starters sub to a part number 590739. That solves the problem.

To be sure if your problem is in the fuel supply or the spark to the spark plug remove the spark plug from the engine. Plug the wire back on the spark plug and hold the plug with insulated pliers or a thick cloth to prevent being shocked. Touch the bottom of the spark plug to a clean ground on the engine and get someone to pull the starter rope for you. You should see a blue arc from the anode on the spark plug to the metal strip on the bottom of the plug. If you don't see this arc try a new plug. If there is still no arc, replace the ignition module on the lawnmower.

If the arc is good, pour a thimble full of gasoline into the cylinder head and reinstall the spark plug. The engine should start for a few seconds or at least cough and try to start. If the engine starts or try's to start, the problem is in the fuel supply to the cylinder.

Remove the fuel line from the carburetor and let the gas run into a clean container for 1-2 minutes. The fuel flow should be as large as the inner diameter of the hose and be constant. If the fuel slows down or the flow becomes less, replace the fuel line and clean the screen inside the fuel tank where the fuel line attaches.

Hope this helps.
