Question and Answers

Q:

Bass 536881851 Craftsman Snow thrower

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I added a link to the Operator's Manual  where on page 23, 24 and 25 there are good instructions for accessing and replacing the augur drive belt. Page 26 in the operator's manual has the step-by-step instructions for removing the traction belt.  The Operator Manual has very good step-by-step instructions and I hope this helpful. Also, here is a link to basic step-by-step instructions and procedure for replacing an augur belt.

I hope this helpful.

Q:

I have a model 536881851 snowthrower with a destroyed worm gear. Is the replacement 51405MA a different material?

A:

To my knowledge the material in the worm gear is the same as before. It is still a brass gear. Engineers at the factory determine the best lubrication for the gears. When the transmissions are manufactured someone covers the gears with grease and rubs it into the teeth of the gears.

The failure rate of the gear boxes is very low. I am sorry you got one that didn't hold up. The most likely reason is because the grease wasn't applied to the worm gear correctly when it was manufactured.

Q:

Can you tell me how to replace the pull rope for my Craftsman Snow thrower model number: 536881851.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I should be able to help you repair the starter. I have provided you with an image below showing how to remove the recoil and housing from the engine. Once the housing is removed you can drill out the rivets and replace the whole recoil or just replace the rope. If you are just going to replace the rope, do not drill out the rivets. I have found a video on you tube that will show how to replace the rope. Please click on this link to view the video .

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the snow blower.
