Question and Answers

Q:

Gasoline is leaking from under the carb area of my Craftsman edger model 536797561. How do I fix this?

A:

To repair the leak on your edger you need to be more specific about where the leak is coming from. Look the the highest point on the carburetor you can see gas. You might need to clean the carburetor more with a putty knife or sand cloth to locate the leak.

Check the oil in the engine and see if it has gas in it. If there is gasoline in the oil, the float in the carburetor is not cutting the flow of gas to the carburetor off.

The problem is usually caused by debris from the fuel line between the fuel tank and the carburetor getting into the seat in the carburetor where the needle valve on the float assembly stops the flow of fuel into the carburetor.

You can probably repair the problem by removing the carburetor from the engine. Remove the fuel bowl on the bottom of the carburetor and clean the debris from the seat. Replace the fuel line from the fuel tank to the carburetor. The debris usually comes from the deteriorating fuel line.

Q:

Gas Bulb 536797561 Craftsman 3.0 h. p. edger/trimmer

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the engine. I looked up the model number you submitted. According to our parts list your edger should have engine model number 143632208. I looked up the engine parts and this model does not have a primer bulb on the carburetor. I think we may be talking about two different parts. I recommend looking at the parts list for the carburetor on the engine. Click the following link to see the parts list.Replacement parts for Craftsman engine model 143632208.

Once on the site you can find and order the part you need. If the image does not match what you have, please reply below with the model number of the engine on the edger.

Q:

My edger, Craftsman model 536.797510, is leaking gas out of the air filter. Why? It drains the gas tank.

A:

The problem will be the carburetor is letting through too much gas. I would replace the carburetor or the diaphragm assemble. If the diaphragm ruptures the fuel will flow through the carburetor and flood the engine. You should also check the oil in the engine to be sure it doesn't have gasoline in it.
