Model #536773500 Craftsman line trimmers/weedwackers, gas

Question and Answers

Q:

My Craftsman edger and weed trimmer leak gas from the air cleaner connection. What is the problem?

A:

When the fuel runs out of the air cleaner, it is because the needle on the float inside the carburetor is not going into the seat correctly and stopping the fuel flow into the carburetor.

Be sure to check the oil and see if gasoline has run into the crankcase. If you have fuel in the oil, drain it and replace it with new oil.

The most common cause for the needle to not shut the fuel flow off is debris in the seat causing the needle to not go into the seat fully.

You can probably repair both engines by removing the carburetor, remove the float from the carburetor and unstop the seats. The fuel lines should be replaced and fuel filters if you have them.
