Q:

Craftsman lawnmower 917.377593 starts sometimes, may be once every 30 times and dies after 5 seconds. 917377593

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details, your on the right track in cleaning and rebuilding the carburetor, but I recommend replacing the carburetor assembly. The main body that you refer to as a "hunky metal part" very well could be dirty and needs to be cleaned inside and out. You will need to remove the carburetor assembly from the engine inorder to clean it. If the bowl is warped or if the bowl gasket is bad, the engine will not run or run properly. This Tecumseh carburetor is reffered to as a Vector carb. You may be able to find a video on youtube with the rebuilding procedure.

I highly recommend to replace the carburetor assembly if you do not plan on replacing the mower any time soon or take a chance and replace the carburetor bowl assembly with pars already installed. These carburetors can be a pain and very time consuming attempting to clean and rebuild. Pay close attention to the how the linkage is attached before removing the carburetor. Take digital photos of the linkage connected to the carb before disconnecting the linkage for future refference to aid in reconnecting the linkage. Again, I recommend replacing the carburetor assembly rather than attempting to repair it.

Q:

I want to install this unit, actually (5) of these onboard a US Navy ship. Will (5) 220 VAC 30 Amp power sources suffice as far as electrical requirements?

A:

The power supply that you are describing will likely work for this model of laundry center. The specific electrical requirements are shown in the image below. Here is a link for the full installation guide for this model of laundry center: Installation Instructions .

Before you move forward with this project, here are some facts to consider:

  • This laundry center is designed for use on land. The unit normally needs to remain level to work properly. Components can wear out quickly if the unit is used on a ship.

  • Siphoning could occur through the drain line if this unit is installed on a ship. A siphon break is normally needed in the drain line for this type of installation.

  • This top load washer model will require a fairly large amount of water. Depending on your availability of a water supply, you may consider a front load model that uses less water. Here is a Sears.com link for a front load laundry center: Frigidaire White 27 in. Electric Front Load Laundry Center with Dryer - GLEH1642F ENERGY STAR . This front load washer is also designed for use on land. It may also have trouble in the high speed spin mode if it does not remain level.

  • You may or may not intend to use these appliances when the ship is underway. If the ship is underway, the issues discussed above could be compounded. I recommend that you seriously consider these facts before installing these appliances.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Q:

Can I install a 30" gas cook with a top side clearance of 2" instead of the 5" that the manual requires?

A:

The clearances on the side of the cook top are provided based on the design of the appliance. I recommend that you only install the cook top with the required 5" clearance.

I checked several other brands and models of cook tops. They consistently require 5" of clearance between the side of the cook top and the wall beside it.
