Question and Answers

Q:

What does "E 70" mean?

A:

Without knowing the model number I can only provide general information.

I added a link below with information about the "E70" error code for Frigidaire branded front load washers and Kenmore branded washers that have a 417 prefix to the model number. An example Kenmore model number would be 417.xxxxxxxx.

Resubmit your question with the model number and any additional details for model specific information.

Why am I getting the E70 error code on my Kenmore front load washer?

Q:

why is my kenmore series 70 not spinning

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Having the model number of your washer would provide the information needed in order to know exactly what type of controls it has. Without having the model number or your washer and additional details I will only be able to provide general information.

I must assume the washer will agitate and drain water but not spin. Based on this assumption, the clutch is likely worn or it could have a broken brake release on the basket drive. I recommend having a service technician repair this type of failure.

If it's not operating at all in the spin and drain cycles, the failure is likely the lid switch.

Reply with the model number and additional details for model specific troubleshooting assistance.

Ray: You provided a model number of a washer and not a dryer. If it's dryer and the motor is running and the drum is not turning; this would indicate the drum belt has come off or has broken. If the motor will not start, the motor is likely faulty. You could try opening the door and manually rotate the drum counter clockwise and then shut the door and see if it will start. I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post along with the model number of the dryer. If it is washer you are speaking of, the motor coupler could be broken if it will not agitate or spin and only drains.

Q:

Kenmore 70 series

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. First, I want to let you know the washer is supposed to drain all the water after the agitation cycles first, then the timer must cause the motor to shut off momentarily after it has plenty of time to drain and when the timer advances and causes the motor to start again after the short pause, then the gear case shifts into spin and the basket begins spinning. It's not supposed to immediately begin spinning with a full tub of water. It must drain it first, pause, start again and then spin. I hope I haven't confused you.

If the washer is just sitting there and not running until you raise and lower the lid, then the lid is not striking the lid switch in order to allow the washer to operate in the drain and spin cycles.

Now, if you the water has already drained the water and is running but not spinning after raising and lowering the lid, then it could have a gear case failure. If it will spin at once the motor is running, then it's not a clutch issue.

I added a couple of images below with the theory of spin operation.
