Question and Answers

Q:

Why does our dryer stop after 5 or 10 minutes?

A:

We would need to know the model number of your dryer in order to help you diagnose the cause of this dryer problem. There are many different types of controls on the various models and brands of dryers. It sounds like you may have a dryer with an electronic control board that energizes a motor relay. The control board may not be supplying proper voltage to the motor relay or you could have a defective motor relay that needs to be replaced. A failed thermistor (temperature sensor) can also cause this type of dryer to stop prematurely.

Resubmit your question with the full model number of your dryer and we will be glad to help you.

Q:

Why does my ProForm 730CS treadmill shut itself off after 5 to 10 minutes of use?

A:

If it is tripping the reset it could be a bad reset switch. If you are running the treadmill on an extension cord, that can cause it. It could also be the walking belt needs lubrication. To test the belt lubrication, do not turn the treadmill motor on. Set the elevation to the highest level. Stand near the front of the walking belt. Push yourself firmly toward the rear of the treadmill. If the belt is properly lubricated the belt will take you to the rear edge of the treadmill and dump you off on the floor. If you move and stop, the belt needs lubricating. The part number for the belt lubrication kit is 219168.

You can buy it at Sears Part Direct The cost is around $4.00. The application instructions should be in the package, but in case they are not here is how to apply the lubrication. Turn the walking belt until the belt seam is along the top of the front roller. Raise the belt on one side in the center of the walking board front to back as high as you can. Apply ½ the tube of lubrication to the walking board in a zigzag fashion moving from front to back. Move the belt until the seam comes up on top of the rear roller and lift the belt again and put the rest of the lubrication on the walking board in the same manner. Turn the treadmill on and walk on the belt for 10-20 minutes. Walk all over the belt to distribute the lubrication evenly on the walking belt and board.

Q:

My Sears garden tractor quits running after 5 or 10 minutes. What is my problem and what is the fix?

A:

Something is grounding out the ignition coil or the ignition coil is going bad. I am sending you a schematic of your tractor. The black wire that goes to the ignition module is the "kill wire". It grounds out the ignition coil and kills the engine when the kill wire goes to ground.

Look closely at your wiring harness for any place the wires are exposed to heat. The only source of heat is the engine so if the wires are pinched by sheet metal on the engine this is a possible cause.

You can remove the cover on the engine and disconnect the kill wire from the ignition module. If the engine still dies, the ignition coil is bad. If the engine keeps running, something is shorting in the black wire circuit.
