Question and Answers

Q:

Why is the oven temperature on my 5 year old Kenmore range model 665.95154300 100 degrees too low?

A:

I recommend checking the broil element to make sure that it is heating properly. A problem with this element could cause heating problems in the bake mode.

If the broil element is working, I recommend unplugging the range and checking the resistance of the oven temperature sensor probe. Unplug the wiring connection on the probe and measure the resistance of this component with a volt/ohm meter. You should measure about 1080 ohms at room temperature. A high resistance through this sensor probe will prevent the oven from heating properly. If you suspect that it is bad, I recommend replacing it. This should fix your oven heating problem. There is a chance that the oven control board could be bad. If you replace the temperature sensor probe and still have problems, then you may need to replace the control board.

Q:

range does not get higher than 100 degrees

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details, the high limit thermal switch has likely tripped during the high heat of the self clean cycle. The thermal switch is located on the back of the range and will likely have a red wire with a white stripe and a black wire with a white stripe connected to it. You will need to remove the range and take the rear panel off in order to access the thermal switch. There will be a red reset button in the middle of the thermal switch to push and reset. There are no video or written instructions. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

NOTE: Disconnect the range from the power supply before removing the back panel and resetting the thermal switch. I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose why the thermal switch tripped.

Q:

TEMPERATURE 100 DEGREES HIGHER

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If you're sure the thermometer you are using is accurate, you will likely need to replace the oven thermostat or just set the thermostat 100 degrees lower than need be. The oven temperature calibration adjustments are made by loosening the two screws on the back side of the thermostat knob and rotating the skirt. I added an image below with the calibration instructions.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
