Question and Answers

Q:

How do I install a new electronic ignition on a Briggs and Stratton 422707?

A:

Remove the blower housing from the top of the engine. There are 4-5 small bolts holding the blower housing to the engine block.

Remove the 2 screws holding the ignition module to the engine block. Adjust the module so there is .010-.012 clearance between the flywheel and the module.

Q:

Briggs&Stratton 18hp Riding mower. Model # 422707

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. The engine does not have a safety switch. If the engine will only run when you pour gas into the carburetor, I suspect the fuel pump filled with oil. The pump has a line that goes from the engine to the bottom of the pump. If the engine is tipped over, oil will run down that line. I recommend taking the pump apart and cleaning it. The image below shows where the pump is located. Click on the image to enlarge it. While cleaning the pump clear out the hose between the pump and engine. Once it is clean check the operation.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

transmission oil on a briggs and stratton model number 422707 type 1236-02

A:

Thank you for your question on the lawn tractor.

I apologize but I am a little confused by your question.

Are you talking about the engine oil has run out or are you referring to the transmission/transaxle on the tractor that has run out of oil.

The engine has a dip stick and if you full the dip stick out and there is not oil then you will need to fill to the proper level on the dip stick with SAE 30 oil.

If you are referring to the transaxle on the tractor I will need a model number of the tractor which should be under the seat on a sticker to know what kind of transaxle you have. It should start with a 917.2XXXXXXX.

Please let me know what you find out.
