Q:

Replace burners on Kenmore gas grill

A:

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to rebuild the BBQ grill.

Since this is a 2003 model grill I would question if I would repairing it over replacing it since it is corroded so badly.

As long as the igniter system is still working replacing just the burners shouldn't be too bad.

The electronic ignition system has a 9 year warranty if it needs repair.

The 3 burners just set in the frame, and should not be hard to replace. The part number for the burners is 4158121 for about $14.00 a piece. You may also choose to replace the cooking grates. The two grate set is part number: 4152778 for about $46.00. And the swing away grate part number is: 4152125 for about $15.00. At this point you have over $100.00 invested in an old grill. But you may not need to replace the grates.

I think it may be wiser to replace than repair.

This grill is on sale for $149.00 and it is similar to what you have.

Q:

new igniter for kenmore grill

A:

Thank you for your question on the replacement of the igniter on the BBQ grill.

It sounds like the original igniter is no longer available and you received a universal substitute igniter kit. You may have to enlarge the hole so you can install the igniter.

It is not uncommon to have to use a universal igniter kit for BBQ grills.

The angles on the igniter do not control the arc but you may also have to bend the igniter so it is close enough to the burner head to light it.

Usually they come with instructions as to what you will have to do to make it work with your model grill.
