Question and Answers

Q:

How to Adjust Chime Volume on Dryer

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

According the Use and Care Guide pressing the "Chime" button adjusts the volume of the chime or turns it off. Press the button repeatedly until the desired volume is shown on the display. I added a link to the Use and Care Guide .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Leslie: The information in the User's manual stating the "Chime" level is adjustable may be a mis-print. I will have this put into research with the manufacturer/engineers in order to confirm if the "Chime" level is adjustable of not and get back with you. Thanks.

Leslie: We go an answer from the manufacture and they said the "Chime" volume is not adjustable. You can turn it OFF and ON and no other selection. The User's manual is not correct in saying it's adjustable.

Q:

40289032011 electric dryer is not giving an error message. the dryer is on but the barrel does not move. does it have a reset button or do we need to call f

A:

I see that you found a problem with the drum belt. If that dryer is under warranty then the technician should be able to correct the problem for you.

If the dryer is not still under warranty, then you may still want to have a technician complete this repair. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services . You can schedule service online through that website.

If the dryer is not under warranty and you want to fix this problem yourself, then you can order a new belt from this page: Drive Belt for Kenmore Dryer Model 402.89032011 . Be sure that you unplug the dryer before accessing internal components and replacing that belt. The image below shows how to access and replace that belt.

NOTE: Unless you know that the belt is broken, I recommend that you check to see if it is just loose or removed from the motor pulley. If that is the case, then you don't have to order a replacement belt to fix this problem yourself. Just route the belt back onto the motor pulley. Position the belt over the idler pulley as shown in the image below.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

Q:

I have Kenmore dryer Mod: 402-89032011, ser: YOLB54B301050K. The check filter light blinks when unit is powered . The unit will not start after selecting cycle.

A:

That check filter light will normally come on before every cycle as a reminder to check that filter. Your problem with the unit not starting is probably not related to the lint filter or the exhaust air system. You could have a problem with the drive belt or another component that is preventing the dryer from starting.

I recommend that you unplug the dryer and check the drive belt first. The image below shows how to access that drive belt through the back of the dryer.

If that drive belt is off of the idler pulley, then replacing it on that component and the motor pulley so that it will properly close the belt switch may fix the starting problem in your dryer.

If that belt is properly routed through the idler pulley and the motor pulley then you could have a number of other failures that would prevent the dryer from starting. You could have a bad electronic control board, a wiring failure or a bad drive motor. Reply with additional details if you need more help diagnosing and repairing this failure.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
