Thanks for the question about the refrigerator not cooling due to frost in the freezer; I will be glad to assist with this issue.
Frost build up on the evaporator coils can be caused from excessive air intrusion, or a defrost system failure. If a door has been left open frost will accumulate very fast and frost will also be on the frozen food. If the frost is only on the coils and back panel, I would suspect the defrost system has failed.
The defrost system has three components, defrost timer, defrost heater, and defrost bi-metal. All these would need to be checked to determine the exact cause.
You can advance the defrost timer/control into a cycle by using a flat blade screwdriver into the gear slot and turning clockwise until you hear a click and unit stops running. The control is located at top of fresh food section in control box just behind the temperature control (look for dime size hole with slotted cam) Once you have advanced into defrost observe and you should see the frost melt away from back panel within a few minutes. If this happens and unit does not come back on by itself the control is bad. If this does not happen then the problem would be in the heater or bi-metal and require a technician.

I hope this helps, if you need additional help reply with details and I will be happy to respond.

Thanks Ron H.
