Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore gas range #36273221202 will not bake or broil. All of the burners work fine. Thank you for guidance to fully examine and diagnoise for repair.

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

In order for the bake/broil burner to ignite; the electronic glow bar igniter must have the proper voltage and it must glow. It must not only glow red; it must glow red and pull enough current/amperage to cause the oven gas valve to open. Open the broiler drawer and turn on the oven. You should see the igniter glow bright red. If it glows red and the burner never ignites, replace the glow bar igniter. NOTE: Disconnect the power supply from the range before servicing.

If the glow bar igniter is not glowing then the igniter could be broken or it may have a faulty oven thermostat or a faulty oven gas valve. You can test the igniter by removing it and disconnecting the two wires or connector. You will need a volt/ohm meter to test the igniter for continuity. If it does measure continuity, replace the igniter. If the igniter measure continuity then I would suspect a faulty oven thermostat or a faulty oven gas valve.

I added an image below that will provide information and instructions on how to access the thermostat and the oven igniter.
