Thank you for your question. I can understand the concern if the dryer continues to run. Have you tried the timed cycles.  If the problem happens with the timed cycle also, it may be the timer. First I would make sure the dryer and vents are clear of lint.  A heat buildup will affect the dryer sensors.  Next I would check and clean the moisture sensors.  Sometimes fabric softener can build up and affect the ability to determine the dryness of the clothes. The other possible causes are; the cycling thermostat, the thermistor, the resister, the heater and the control.  I would recommend having a technician to diagnose and make the necessary repairs. You can schedule a Sears technician at Sears Home Services. If you prefer to try this repair at home, after verifying no lint buildup and cleaning the moisture sensors, I would  look at the cycling thermostat first. The image below will show where this is located in a Maytag dryer. This video can help you decide if this disassembly is something you want to tackle. The diagrams and parts are located at Sears Parts Direct .  If further assistance is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.
