Q:

HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE ENGINE SHROUD ON A CRAFTSMAN WEEDWACKER MODEL 358797161

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

There is a front half and rear half making up the shroud. In order to remove the housing, the drive shaft must be taken out first where it connects to the front of the clutch housing. Then remove the screws on the clutch housing and remove the clutch housing. Remove the spark plug and feed some rope into the spark plug hole leaving 4-5 inches of rope hanging out. The rope is use to prevent the engine from spinning over when removing the nut securing the clutch to the shaft. Turn the nut counter clockwise (CCW) to remove the nut. Once the nut is off, remove the screws securing the front housing to the rear housing and then you can separate the two housing.

Q:

how do you put a fuel filter and gasline on a craftman weedwacker mdl 358797161 filter inside tank

A:

You can empty the fuel tank and use a coat hanger or piece of heavy wire to fish the fuel filter out of the tank. Pull the fuel filter off. Pull the fuel line out of the gas tank. Pull the other end of the gas line off of the carburetor. Cut the new gas line to the proper length. Trim the end of the side that goes into the gas tank to a point so that you can push it through the opening in the tank. Push the new fuel line into the tank and fish the end out with the coat hanger or wire mentioned above. Trim the end so that it is straight and install the fuel filter. Attach the other end of the fuel line to the carburetor. NOTE: Replacing the fuel line is normally a task that is performed by a technician. Improperly replacing a fuel line can result in a fire and serious injury. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician.
