Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore 1980 (?) era washer

A:

Hi Sherre',

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am sorry you are having problems with your washer.

From your description I recommend that you check the drain pump and drain hoses for clogs or blockage. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. If you have a wet/dry vacuum you can use it to empty the water, otherwise you will have to bail the water out of the washer. You will then have to lay the washer down to get to the drain pump underneath. Check and see if there are any blockages in the hoses or openings in the pump.

The remaining checks will require the use of an ohm/volt meter. If you have a meter and are confident in your ability to safely perform these checks, reply to this post and I will be happy to assist you in any way I can.

I highly recommend having a trained service technician evaluate this problem. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

I'm looking for an online repair manual for my Brushwacker, model 358795580. Can you help with a site?

A:

We don't have access to repair manuals for the brushwacker. I am sending you some instructions we wrote for replacing the starter rope. Hope this helps.

Remove the screws in the trigger housing and separate the housing.

Place a dull cold chisel against the outer portion of the clutch drum so it will turn the clutch drum clockwise. Rap it sharply with a small hammer causing the drum to spin clockwise. Most of the time the clutch will spin off the engine shaft.

If the clutch drum turns the crankshaft and doesn't come off, remove the spark plug and insert 3-4 feet of the new starter rope into the cylinder. The piston will jam against the rope and stop the crankshaft from turning.

Remove the screws holding the blower housing and remove the blower housing. This will give you access to the starter pulley.

Be careful of the spring on the starter pulley while removing and installing the new rope. Wind the rope by turning the starter pulley. This puts the tension in the spring to retract the starter rope.

Run the free end of the starter rope through the housing and install the handle on the rope. Wind the pulley as far as you can before installing the housing on the engine.
