Question and Answers

Q:

won't run hi speed 358795501 Craftsman Weedwacker

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the trimmer. If the engine will not lean out when you adjust the carburetor, I recommend removing the muffler first. Then check the operation with the muffler off. The muffler has a fine screen inside of it that can plug up and cause the problem you are having. If the engine runs good with the muffler removed, I recommend cleaning the screen if it is accessible. If the muffler will not come apart, you need to replace the muffler. The parts for the trimmer can be ordered from the following link. Replacement parts for a Craftsman trimmer model 358.795501. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Grass-line-trimmer-Parts/Model-358795501/0247/1503820?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=358795501 If the engine still does not run well with the muffler removed I suspect the problem is in the carburetor. If the diaphragm in the carburetor is stiff, it will cause fuel to dump into the engine. If this is the case, the carburetor needs to be replaced. There is not a rebuild kit offered for this carburetor. Poulan is the manufacturer of this trimmer.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

Gasin replacment on Craftsman 358795501 trimmer weed wacker.

A:

Thank you for your request for the gas line replacement routing.

The small fuel line comes from the tank attached to the fuel filter and goes to the small fitting on the carburetor.

I believe that your model has the primer bulb on the side of the carburetor so you only have two lines instead of three.

The large return line comes from the carburetor and goes into the return line hole in the fuel tank.

To make it easier to install these lines into the tank cut the ends of the lines on a sharp angle and insert point first into the fuel tank and then with a pair of needle nose pliers pull the hose into the tank and cut the hose off square.

The small line attaches to the fuel filter and the large line is just a return back to the fuel and it does not attach to anything, it is just pushed into the tank about a 1/2 inch.

I hope this will help.

Please let me know if you need more help and I will be glad to help you.

Q:

my craftman weedwacker wont start.what could be the problem.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the trimmer. Seeing as you where having a problem with the kill switch, I recommend checking the trimmer for spark. To check the trimmer for spark you will need to remove the spark plug from the engine. Then connect the spark plug to the spark plug wire. Once it is connected hold the base of the spark plug to a bare metal part of the engine. While holding the spark plug in position, pull the starter rope a few times. You should see the end of the spark plug spark. If you do not see it spark, do the same check with a different spark plug. If it still does not spark you will need to disassemble the trimmer to access the ignition coil. Once at the ignition coil remove the small wire from the ignition module and perform the same check again. If there still is not spark the ignition module is defective.

Please feel free to reply below with the findings of these checks for more assistance.
