Question and Answers

Q:

Replacing a gearbox on Sears Weedwacker Mod 358791580 358791580 Craftsman Trimmer

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The end of the flex shaft is not threaded onto the gearbox. The end of the shaft will mate up to a receiver when the gearbox is slid up on the tube. You may need to rotate the shaft that the cutting head attaches to while slipping the gearbox to engage the flex shaft to the gearbox.

It should be an easy procedure to remove and replace the gearbox.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Repairing of Craftsman Weed Wacker 358791580

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. The reed stop should be installed with the curved part away from the reed valve. This keeps the valve from opening too much and bending the valve.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

Why is my line trimmer vibrating so badly?

A:

I assume that this is the model number of your line trimmer concerning you previous question about excessive vibration.

On this model of line trimmer, try these tips to resolve your vibration problem:

  • Check your fuel mixture. You may even try emptying the gas tank and starting with a fresh batch if you suspect that the vibration is caused by a rough running engine.
  • Check for loose fittings on the trimmer. Tightening all fittings may eliminate or minimize vibration.
  • Check the line for proper winding and installation.
  • Make sure that you clean the air filter regularly.
If these general tips do not help resolve your vibration problem, you will need to take the trimmer in to be diagnosed and serviced by a technician.
