Q:

for chainsaw 358351701 the recoil starter rope is locked up. Ican't pull it at all.is there any easy fix or can i bring it in to be repaired? 358351701

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having this problem with the chainsaw. If the pull rope will not come out it could be a problem with the starter or something has jammed the engine. I recommend removing the starter from the engine first. It is secured with a few screws. Once it is removed, you can pull the starter rope. If you cannot pull it out with it removed, the recoil starter is defective. If you can pull it out, try to turn the flywheel on the engine. If you cannot turn the flywheel, I recommend removing the bar and chain. Once it is removed, try to turn the clutch drum. If the brake is off it should turn freely. If it does, try to turn the flywheel again. If it will not turn, I suspect the engine has an internal problem. An internal problem can be caused by using straight gasoline in the engine. If that happened, the piston, rings, and cylinder need to be replaced. If the saw is less than two years old, I recommend taking the unit in for service. It has a two-year warranty against manufacture defects. You can have it repaired by a Sears  technician.  Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services.
