Question and Answers

Q:

Craftsman chainsaw #358350830: (18inch bar) First, the pull wouldn't recoil, so took the housing fan (#26), to take a look at the rope.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the chainsaw. I should be able to help you with the repair. If the spring is broke, you have to be careful replacing it. First, put on some gloves and safety glasses. Then take the old recoil apart. Be careful when you remove the pulley because the spring may come out violently. Once it is removed, clean the area where the spring sits and wind the spring into the housing. Make sure the end of the starter is in the notch. This can be tricky to install. Once you have the spring in position click here to watch a video on how to reassemble the rest of the recoil.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on repairing the starter.
