Question and Answers

Q:

Why does my TV shutdown?

A:

As a TV ages, the tube can become weak. A technician can try turning up the screen control to see if it will stop the TV from shutting down with a 5 blink error. This control is usually found on the flyback transformer which can be dangerous since this is the transformer that generates the high voltage for the CRT. A 6 blink error code could mean something else but since you are getting the TV on for 2-3 seconds I would start off making checks on the screen control. Eventually a new tube will be needed but you might get some life out of it if there is nothing damaged.

Q:

Door hinge has locked when it was removed for cleaning. How do I unlock it to replace the door. It is a Kennmore Electric range four years old.

A:

Try to disable that oven door lock using the procedure shown in the first image below. Here is a link for the full owner's manual for your range in case you need it: Owner's Manual .

If you are not able to unlock the oven door using that procedure, then you may be able to unlock it manually be unplugging the range and accessing the door lock motor assembly on the back of the unit. Remove the back panel to access that oven door lock motor assembly. It is shown in the second image. You may be able to release the rod on the top of that motor assembly and manually unlock the oven door.

You could have a bad door lock motor assembly, a wiring failure or a problem with the electronic clock control board that is preventing the oven door from unlocking. If you need help diagnosing and repairing that type of failure, reply with additional details and the full model number of your range. The model number is normally on the base of the range in front of the left or right front leveling leg. Open the bottom drawer below the oven door to view this area.

If needed, you can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

Q:

Kenmore ultrasoft 180 625.388180 03

A:

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to know what the small brownish orange balls are.

This is the resin beads that do the softening.

What has happened is that the distributor screen down in the bottom of the resin tank has broken and is letting the resin beads out into the water lines.

To repair this you will need to replace this part and it is not a nice job for a consumer because you have to remove the resin bed tank from the softener and then remove the resin and replace the distributor. This tank is full of water and resin beads and it is very heavy.

You will have to remove all the salt from the storage tank first.

Then remove the head off the top of the resin tank.

Then remove the top distributor screen and then you will see the resin.

If it was me doing this I would replace the resin bed also, since you have lost some and you have not cleaned the current bed before.

The part number for the distributor is: 7105047 and it sells for about $62.00.

The part number for the resin is: 0502272 and it sells for about $150.00.

My suggestion is to activate the bypass valve to the softener is not in the water supply line and while you will not have softened water it will stop the resin beads from getting into the water lines.

If you feel like you can do this repair and need more help please reply and I will be happy to help you further.
