Question and Answers

Q:

What is the manufacturing date of my Kenmore dishwasher model 665 that has a serial number beginning with FJ?

A:

The FJ does indicate that this unit was manufactured in 1999. Most Kenmore dishwashers beginning with model number 665 will last about 15 years. Since the unit is older than 1/2 of the average useful life, it is not normally recommended to spend more than 1/2 of the price of a replacement model on a repair. If you have a service technician repair the dispenser, it will likely cost between $150 and $250 to fix this problem depending on the exact cause.

This failure is fairly minor. Most of the time it is caused by a failed dispenser assembly in most Kenmore dishwashers beginning with model number 665. On some models, you may be able to replace the dispenser assembly yourself. I provided a procedure for replacing the dispenser assembly on a common 665 Kenmore dishwasher in the image below. If your dispenser looks like this one, then you may be able to fix your problem by ordering a new dispenser assembly from the Sears PartsDirect website. Use your full model number to access the parts list diagram for your particular dishwasher. Shut off the breaker for the dishwasher and replace the dispenser using the procedure shown below. NOTE: Before ordering the part, shut off the breaker for the dishwasher and check the wire harness connections. If replacing the dispenser does not fix the problem, you could have a wiring failure or a failed control board (or timer) on the dishwasher.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore dishwasher.

Q:

F 10

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The "F10" fault code indicates a runaway temperature. This could be caused by a faulty oven temperature sensor probe or a faulty electronic oven control. The oven temperature sensor should be removed, disconnected and tested for proper resistance using an Ohm meter. The oven sensor is located inside the oven cavity in the rear upper rear left or right hand corner. If the screws are visible from inside the oven cavity, it can be removed from inside the cavity. If you do not see screws, the wall oven will have to be removed and the rear panel in order to access and remove the oven temperature sensor.

Use the RTD scale I added in the image below for the resistance scale.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post along with the model number. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

10'' radial saw

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having this problem with the radial arm saw. Usually when a saw does not start but hums and turns slow, it is because the start switch on the motor is not working or the capacitor is defective. Before you take the motor apart, I recommend plugging the saw directly into an outlet. Then check the operation. If it still does not work, I recommend unplugging the unit and remove the plastic cover over the motor. The capacitor is installed on the top of the motor. It is a cylinder shaped part that has a few wire attached to it. If you have a local electrical supply house, you can remove the capacitor and bring it to them. They should be able to test the capacitor. If it checks ok, the problem is likely the start switch on the motor shaft opposite of the blade. If you have an ohmmeter, you can remove the switch and test it. It should show closed or 0 ohms when pushed and ol or open when released. If you do not have these readings, the switch is defective. The parts can be ordered from the following link. Replacement parts for a Craftsman radial arm saw model 113.199250.

If the switch checks out fine, the problem is likely in the start windings. I looked up the stator and I am sorry it is no longer available. If the saw does need the stator, you might be able to find a local motor company to rewind it for you.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
