Question and Answers

Q:

Starting model #31C707 Type#0603-B1

A:

Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having a problem with the engine. I will be happy to assist you diagnosing the solenoid. The image below show how to check the solenoid. If the solenoid is working I recommend pouring in a thimble full of fuel into the throat of the carburetor. Then try to start the engine. If the engine starts and dies I recommend cleaning the carburetor. I found a website that shows how to clean the carburetor. Click here to be taken to that site.   I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark

Q:

Gas running through carbrator into crankcase

A:

Thank you for your question on the gas running through the carburetor and into the crankcase.

You have the right idea in that the float is not sealing off the full when the carburetor bowl is full of fuel.

I would take another look at the carburetor float and needle and seat, because that is how the fuel gets from the carburetor to the intake of the engine.

Since it had sat up for a long time I am thinking the either the needle and seat are not sealing or the float is hanging up and not closing the needle and seat. The other this is that the seat may be damaged and is not sealing and the fuel is weeping buy.

This Briggs model used two different brands of carburetors so you may have to end up rebuilding the carburetor with a kit.

Please let me know what you find out.

Q:

What carburetor or carburetor kit is needed for my Briggs Engine 31C707, Type number 0230-E1?

A:

There are 2 part numbers for the replacement carburetor for a Nikki. Before date code 050813 use 792358. After date code 080514 use 796109. These will be exact replacement carburetors. Get the date code from the engine so you will get the correct part.
