Question and Answers

Q:

My pull start is jammed on my 31AH5WTG799 and even the electric will not turn the engine, how do I go about fixing this?

A:

Several things can cause the starter rope to not pull out. The most common reason on a snow thrower is ice in the starter holding it.

If you are sure the starter is not frozen, check the oil level to be sure the engine has the correct amount of oil in it. Add oil if necessary.

Remove the spark plug and try to pull the rope. Sometimes you get the piston full of gasoline, oil, or water that holds it. With the spark plug removed, any liquid will be pushed out of the spark plug hole. It is also possible the engine is bad and locked up. If the rope won't pull with the spark plug removed, try to turn the engine by hand. At this point you might need to remove the outer cover of the engine to access the flywheel to see if you can turn it.

If the engine is seized, you probably should replace the snow thrower.
