Question and Answers

Q:

Clean light blinks 3X then stops then blinks so on and so on.

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the "Clean" light is flashing 7 times and then pausing and repeating and the dishwasher will not operate:

This condition indicates the control board did not detect a water temperature rise in the main wash.

A heater fault detection program has been added to the electronic control to monitor the operation of the heater. If a temperature rise in the water is not detected during the first 8 minutes of the beginning of the main wash, the dishwasher will shut down.

A fault will be indicated if a 2 degree increase in the water temperature is not obtained (inlet water temp greater than 90degree) or if a 4 degree increase in the water temperature is not obtained (inlet water temp less than 90 degree).

If the correct temperature rise is not detected, the dishwasher will drain and blink the clean light 7 times to signal a heating fault. The detection will be ignored if the temperature is out of its normal range 64 - 160 degrees or the door is opened during the first 8 minutes of the main wash. This is to prevent a false detection.

Possible causes that could keep the water from properly heating:

  • Open circuit in Heating Element circuit (heater, thermostat, or wiring)
  • Neutral side Door Switch not closing (check switch and door latch assembly)
Note: Neutral side door switch only used for heater circuit.
  • Water not coming in or lack of water (check inlet valve circuit and water pressure)
  • Lack of water circulation (pump motor or restriction in circulation channels)
  • Siphoning of water during fill (check drain hose for proper installation)

Troubleshoot the dishwasher for possible cause. Perform repair accordingly. Reset the electronic control by initiating a diagnostic cycle. The service diagnostic cycle is activated by pressing the following keys respectively: ------Heated Dry------Normal------Heated Dry-------Normal and letting the dishwasher operate for about a minute. Press Cancel/Drain and then let it time out. Once this has been completed, the dishwasher will operate normally unless the control doesn't detect a water temperature rise again.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Response to previous expert question. Craftsman GT 5000 26 hp push rods bending 3X and valve guides on both sides of the heads were fine.

A:

The advice I sent you came from Briggs and Stratton. If your mechanic says the valve guides are ok, the next step would be to take the mechanics advice and replace the heads.

For the push rods to bend, something has to allow them to move out of position or the engine has to be over speeded drastically.

You can contact Briggs and Stratton at www.briggsandstratton.com and request a replacement engine.

You can contact Sears National Consumer Relations at 1-800-429-3049.

Q:

Craftsman lawnmower engine starts then quits after about 3-4 secs.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having problems with your mower. Usually when this happens, it is because there is debris floating around in the carburetor and main jets. I recommend cleaning the carburetor first. To clean the carburetor remove the spark plug wire and tip the mower onto its side with the air filter up. Behind the air filter, you will see the carburetor. You have to remove the main jet from the bottom of the carburetor. I have marked it in the image below. Once the main jet is removed, you can take the float bowl off. Make sure you do not loose the rubber o-ring. Set the o-ring aside you do not want to get carb cleaner on it. Clean the inside of the float bowl with carb cleaner and a scotch brite pad if needed. Then use the straw that came with the carb cleaner to spray up into the carburetor where the main jet came from. After it is flushed out you can let is dry while you clean the main jet. The main jet has hole in it. Push a bread tie wire into the small hole of the main jet and flush it with carb cleaner. After it is clean, you can reassemble the carburetor. Make sure you put the o-ring on first. It has a step it should sit on. Then install the float bowl and main jet. Tip the mower back over and put the spark plug wire back on. Try to start the mower without priming first. Sometimes it does not need priming because it was tipped over. If the mower does not start, go ahead and prime it. This usually cures the problem you are having.

Note do not get the carb cleaner in your eyes
