Question and Answers

Q:

My Kenmore electric dryer won't start. Inside light works when door is open. The thermal fuse & thermostat read zero ohms - the thermistor reads 7k ohms

A:

The wiring diagram for your dryer is shown in the image below with the drive motor circuit traced in red. Make sure that you plugged in the door switch properly when you reassembled the dryer. You can unplug the dryer and check the continuity through this switch to make sure that it is good.

When you have the timer set in a cycle and the door closed, you should be able to get the motor to run by holding down the push-to-start switch. If not, then you have a problem with a component or wiring that is shown in the circuit traced in red below. Unplug the dryer and check the continuity through the push-to-start switch when the button is pushed in. You may be able to use this wiring diagram to also check the continuity through the timer. Check all of the wiring connections.

These tips should help you find the cause of your dryer problem. If you need more help, submit additional details and we will assist you further.
