Question and Answers

Q:

Why does my weed wacker run for a minute then shut off? It is a model 316791860.

A:

Normally when the engine runs a minute and cuts off, it is a fuel problem. If you are sure the fuel is mixed correctly and is fresh, the problem will be inside the carburetor or a fuel line with a hole in it.

There is no repair kit for the carburetor, you can take it apart and clean the diaphragm and the screens inside. The fuel lines are not expensive and you can replace them. Finding a hole in a fuel line is next to impossible.

I would replace the fuel lines. If the problem is still there, remove the carburetor from the engine and carefully disassemble it and clean it with carburetor cleaner. Run a soft wire through the passages in the carburetor. Shoot carburetor cleaner through the passages and blow them out with compressed air.

Q:

repair manualfor craftsman gas trimmer model 316-791860 p-2

A:

Thank you for your question on the technical manual for the gas trimmer.

Other than the owner's manual the manufacture of the trimmer has not produced a technical manual to use in the repair of these trimmers.

I am sorry that I cannot help you with your request.

If you have some specific questions we would be happy to help you.

Sam A.

Thank you for the update and the model number on the changing of the starter rope for the trimmer. Remove the start plug and if you have any of the starter rope left feed about a foot of rope into the cylinder with enough sticking out to retrieve when you are done. Then use # T25 torx to loosen the clutch screw to remove the clutch drum. Then remove the small washer in front of the clutch. You can remove the clutch with a hammer a large flat bladed screw driver and put the tip of the screw driver on the inner hub of the clutch and with a sharp quick tap on the head of the screwdriver in the direction of the arrow on the clutch to unscrew it from the crankshaft. Then remove the clutch baking washer. You can then remove the starter housing from the engine. If you need anymore instructions please let me know and we can continue with the repair if needed. Thank you for the update. Are you saying that the flex cable will not come out of the clutch drum? Are you down to the starter housing and have not gotten the clutch drum and clutch removed? Please let me know exactly what the problem is. Sam A.

Q:

I have a Craftman weedwacker model 31679186 and want to get a manual, but when I try to get the manual it come up 316791860. Why is that?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It appears this model was manufactured for 2 years (2008 and 2009). The number 0 must be added to end of your model number. The choke cable is also listed as the "throttle cable" and/or the "ACL throttle cable". It is listed as key # 42 in the parts diagram. This "choke" cable is used for both (2008 and 2009) models.

I added a link to the Operator's Manual.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
