Question and Answers

Q:

e 31

A:

I provided information about that E 31 code in the image below. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this type of failure. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services . There are many wires inside that cook top. Those wires need to be routed properly when the cook top is reassembled after the inside is accessed for service. If you open this cook top on your own, there is a chance that it may not work properly unless it is properly reassembled. If you are completely confident that you can shut off the house circuit breaker to completely disconnect electrical power and access the components, then you may be able to perform the troubleshooting that his shown below for that fault code 31. Be sure that you reassemble the cook top properly. If you need parts, you can order them from the Sears PartsDirect website.

Be sure that you completely disconnect electrical power to the cook top before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Q:

I replaced the heating element on a whirlpool built in electric oven but the new element does not work. Are there other parts that tipically go bad?

A:

You could have blown oven shut-down thermal fuse in that circuit. The wiring diagram in the first image below shows that component circled in red for the upper oven. The lower oven has a similar fuse. The physical location of those fuses is shown in the second image. You would need to shut off the house circuit breakers for the oven and pull it out of the cabinet to access those fuses. They are located on the outside back wall of the oven cavity. Remove the outer back panel on the oven to access that component. If those fuses are okay, then you could have a bad relay on the electronic oven control board. The relays are circled in green and blue. The location of that control board is in the console. It is mounted behind the control panel. A wiring failure in that circuit could also prevent the element from heating.

You can order parts from this page: Whirlpool Oven Model GBD307PDS09 Parts . Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breakers for the oven before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.
