Q:

Gas Edger does not start - Weed Eater PE 550 type 3

A:

I am sorry you are having a problem with the edger. You indicated that you replaced the fuel lines. I assume that you replaced the fuel pick-up/filter inside the tank. Make sure that you have the proper mix of fresh fuel/oil in the tank. Make sure that you have enough fuel/oil mix in the tank and that the pick-up/filter is submerged in the fuel.

The engine needs three things to run. They are fuel, compression and spark. Let’s check for those first. Try to start the engine as you normally do. After you pull the rope, a few times remove the spark plug. The end of it should be wet if it is getting fuel. If not, then you probably have a fuel line problem since you just replaced the carburetor.

If the spark plug is wet after try to start the engine, I recommend checking for spark. Allow the spark plug to dry before testing the spark. Conduct that test away from the cylinder. I found a video that will aid in checking for spark. Here  is the video. That video shows a chain saw but the process will be the same for your edger. If you are not getting spark then you may have a bad spark plug or a failed ignition module.

If you have spark I recommend checking for compression. To do this you need a compression gauge. You should be able to loan one from Auto zone. They have a loan a tool program. Once you have the gauge installed pull the rope a few times fast. You should have a reading of at least 90 psi. If you do not have this reading there is a problem in the cylinder. This type of repair usually exceeds the valve of the unit.

If you are missing a screw on that carburetor, that could be causing your problem.

Your details indicate that you are not getting fuel to the cylinder. The problem with the loose fastener on the carburetor and the cylinder assembly. The system is probably not able to pull a vacuum and suck gas into the cylinder due to those leaks. I recommend that you resolve those issues and then see if you are getting gas into the cylinder.

Q:

Kenmore oven is slow to heat up and only gets up to 295 degrees.

A:

This oven has a hidden bake element. I recommend that you pull the bottom panel out of the oven cavity and check to see if that bake element is heating. The bake element will alternate with the broil element in the bake mode. If that element is not heating properly, it will need to be replaced. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If the bake element appears to be working properly, I recommend that you verify the operation of the broil element. Start the oven in the broil mode and check to make sure that broil element is heating properly.

If you find no problems with the elements, I recommend that you check the oven temperature sensor probe. Here is a video that shows how to test that component using a volt/ohm meter: Oven Sensor Testing . Here is a link that shows how to access the sensor: Range Oven Sensor Replacement . Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components . If the sensor is okay (measures around 1100 ohms at room temperature), then you could have a problem with the electronic oven control board. The part number for that control board (also called clock/control) is 316462807. Unplug the range before accessing this component.

These tips may help you with this range failure. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
