Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore oven is slow to heat up and only gets up to 295 degrees.

A:

This oven has a hidden bake element. I recommend that you pull the bottom panel out of the oven cavity and check to see if that bake element is heating. The bake element will alternate with the broil element in the bake mode. If that element is not heating properly, it will need to be replaced. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If the bake element appears to be working properly, I recommend that you verify the operation of the broil element. Start the oven in the broil mode and check to make sure that broil element is heating properly.

If you find no problems with the elements, I recommend that you check the oven temperature sensor probe. Here is a video that shows how to test that component using a volt/ohm meter: Oven Sensor Testing . Here is a link that shows how to access the sensor: Range Oven Sensor Replacement . Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components . If the sensor is okay (measures around 1100 ohms at room temperature), then you could have a problem with the electronic oven control board. The part number for that control board (also called clock/control) is 316462807. Unplug the range before accessing this component.

These tips may help you with this range failure. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Should I remove the styrofoam insert in the back of my Kenmore Progressive 295 air cleaner?

A:

The styrofoam insert in the back of the Mainframe Assembly of your air cleaner is not packing and should not be removed. It is an internal component of the unit. It must be in place for the air cleaner to operate properly.

Q:

Progressive 295 air cleaner won't start / no lights / nothing / tested the outlet already

A:

Since the control won't even light up, you could have a failure in that power cord. Check that component for damage. If you find a problem with that power cord and you can repair it, then you may be able to fix this failure. If not, then the air cleaner will probably need to be replaced. There is not a reset button. I do not see any repair parts available for that unit. If it is not powering up, then you could have a control failure.
