Question and Answers

Why is my refrigerator making a humming sound every 2-5 minutes?

The most likely possibility is that your icemaker stopped while trying to harvest the ice. If it is in the middle of that cycle when you turn it off it still is trying to complete the cycle. The motor will keep trying to run every time the thermostat in the icemaker closes. When it turns on the motor it also turns on the heater in the base of the icemaker. When the heater warms the mold enough to open the thermostat it would stop trying to run the motor and turn the heater off.

The refrigerator must be cooling, so that eliminates the fan motors. Does the dispenser motor turn the auger when you push in the cradle? If it does then you don't have a problem there. Your refrigerator has a heat motor that opens the flapper door on the dispenser, and heat motors don't make a noise.

I would suggest removing the icemaker from the freezer and see if that stops the noise.
Remove the ice bucket from the freezer to access the icemaker, loosen the two 1/4 inch screws that are just above the mold where the ice is made. Lift the icemaker and slide it over the screws to remove. There is a 4 wire harness with a plastic plug connecting the icemaker to the freezer wall. Unplug and remove the plastic plug. Reinstall the ice bucket and leave the icemaker out of the freezer. If the sound goes away you will know the problem is in the icemaker.
If the icemaker is the problem, you can take it to a repair shop or just buy a new icemaker.
