Model #247374900 Craftsman walk behind lawnmower, gas

Question and Answers

Sears lawnmower Model number 247-374900

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. If you have hit something hard enough to bend the blade adapter, I recommend checking the crankshaft first. To check the crankshaft you need to remove the spark plug first. Then tip the mower on its side so the air filter is up. Next, remove the blade. The image below contains the instructions for removing the blade. Click on the image to enlarge it. Once the blade is removed, you can remove the bolts securing the belt cover. Then slide it over the adapter to take it off. Now you can roll the belt off the pulley to loosen the tension and slide the adapter off the crankshaft. If it is a little rusted, you may need to soak the crankshaft with WD-40 and let it sit. After a while, tap on the backside of the adapter with a hammer. It should come off. Once you have it removed, have a helper hold the bail arm down and pull the starter rope. While they pull the rope, look at the end of the crankshaft. If it wobbles at all, the shaft is bent. If this is the case, I recommend replacing the crankshaft or the mower. The reason why is a bent crankshaft will vibrate and the integrity could have been compromised when it bent. If the shaft does not wobble, the shaft is ok. You can reassemble the mower in the reverse order using a new adapter.
