Q:

How do you replace the bearing parts 5,6,and 7 in the chain assembly for Model 247298750?

A:

To replace the bearing in the transmission case, you will have to separate the 2 halves of the transmission. With the side case removed you can tap the old bearing out of the case from the inside. The spacer and bearing housing and new bearing will drive into place with a hammer and a block of wood.

The transmission will have to be removed from the tiller. This involves removing the tines, engine, controls, and removing the transmission.

The transmission will need washing the old grease out of it and cleaning the shafts and gears and replacing with a good grade of axle grease.

Q:

I have a Sears Tiller Model 247298750 Chain case Assembly What kind of oil are grease go in the chain Case Assembly

A:

Thank you for your question.

Wow! That is an old tiller. I have not seen one like this for some time. I looked up the model number you have submitted. If the gear case originally had oil in it, it was 80W90 gear oil. The reason I said originally is that some models had regular grease in them. I am not sure if this was done by the manufacturer or if they were field modified. I know if the oil seals started, leaking some customers drilled a hole in the case and installed a grease zerk. Then would pump it full of grease, instead of fixing the leak. This is not the correct way to repair it but they would not have to worry if the gear case had oil or not.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
